The series tells the story about Lionel Hardcastle,a soldier and Jean Pargetter, a nurse who met in 1953, fell in love and were separated when Lionel was sent to Korean war. He wrote to Jean but she didn't get his letters and because of misunderstanding they both thought the other had lost interest. They went on with their lives, had children and divorced or lost their spouses. After 38 years, their paths cross again and they find each other by chance, discovering that their love is still strong and starting all over again.
