The gigantic Jupiter Mining Corporation's spaceship Red Dwarf is far into deep space following a lethal radiation leak three million years earlier which wiped out all but one of the crew (work-shy technician Dave Lister) and a creature which evolved from a cat that he previously smuggled onboard. Lister, who escaped incineration when he was frozen in time stasis, is revived by the ship's senile computer Holly and is joined by a hologram version of his dead bunkmate, the overly officious and entirely incompetent Arnold Rimmer, together with the psychotic mother-hen mechanoid Kryten. The cult comedy series follows the crew's meandering journey back towards Earth, in which they encounter deadly simulants, shape-changing polymorphs, alien visitors and parallel worlds. All the time, Lister pines for his should-have-been girlfriend Krissy Kochanski, hoping against hope that it will be possible to raise a family with her and spend his retirement on Fiji surrounded by adoring offspring and a never-ending supply of curry and lager.
