Delivering the first musical mission to the barn are former Royal Artillery staff sergeant Billy and charity director Nicky. They're keen to recruit the musical instrument expertise of Pete Woods to bring a beloved bugle back to life. It once belonged to Nicky's great-grandfather, but after meeting Billy at Blind Veterans UK, Nicky decided to gift him her precious instrument. The bugle has played a huge role in veteran Billy's rehab and stimulates memories of his military career. As he goes about the fix, Pete needs to not only even out all the dents and dings so that the bugle shines aesthetically, but also make sure that it's smooth enough to receive Billy's tactile seal of approval. And when Billy and Nicky return to the barn, they're both equally blown away by what Pete's achieved. For wannabe rock star Alex, falling over and snapping the guitar he had strapped to his back was a source of real sorrow. Aged 14, Alex had saved up for over a year to buy the electric guitar, just like the one used by his idol Angus Young from AC/DC. But after the unfortunate accident, it's still broken in two, and music student Alex doesn't know if he'll ever be able to play it again. Having provided a lifeline for him when he was struggling with anxiety through the pandemic, Alex is desperate to be reunited with his greatest love. In the expert hands of luthier Julyan Wallis, Alex's guitar is gradually brought back to its rock 'n' roll best. Not all the musical items that come to the barn are instruments. Musician and teacher Will is hoping silversmith Brenton West can get his precious music stand back on its feet. The broken stand was gifted to Will at the age of 13 by his father, who sadly died when Will was just 21. He was a proud champion of his son's burgeoning music career, and Will is determined to get the stand fixed in memory of the man who worked so hard to facilitate his success. Brenton really puts his back into this repair, leaving both Will and the music stand gleaming. Band members Jim, Heather and Sally are hoping the barn team can restore a vintage bass drum belonging to the Dalkeith Borough Band in Midlothian. Hidden for ages under the altar at the local church, it was brought back to the band a bit the worse for wear. But when they moved to new premises, they pulled it off a shelf and realised its beautiful potential. Pete Woods enlists the artistic skills of Dominic Chinea to get the drum back to its beating best.
