The winning formula of James Herriot's stories, the stunning Dales scenery and the brilliant cast proved a hit from its first appearance in 1978. Peter Davison and Christopher Timothy look back on those days. They tell us what it was like to meet the real James Herriot, a genuine Yorkshire vet called Alf Wight, as well as the original Siegfried and Tristan Farnon.
