Antiques Roadshow

The Roadshow visits Thirlestane Castle in the Scottish Borders, where treasures include a Louis Vuitton packing case, a beautiful travelling clock, and medals awarded to one of the airmen involved in the Dambusters bombing raid. Susan Rumfitt is delighted to appraise a Scottish agate bangle, while Gordon Foster is intrigued to see a fighting knife that may date from the infamous massacre of Glencoe in 1692. Charlotte Riordan is thrilled to see rare works by Scottish artist Richard Wawro, who numbered Pope John Paul II and Margaret Thatcher amongst his fans, and surprises the owners of the pictures by introducing them to the artist's brother. Marc Allum covets a collection of rare Antarctic photos purchased for a few pounds online. Paul Atterbury looks into the intriguing story of a one-armed First World War veteran who cycled from London to Swindon and back in nine hours, while Lennox Cato discovers a table that ranks as an early example of flat-pack furniture. Fiona Bruce takes part in a challenge to select the "rarest of the rare" from a collection of Wemyss ware, and she delves into the history of Thirlestane Castle with a behind-the-scenes peek at a vast collection of family portraits dating back hundreds of years.
